Shalaya Morissette is a visionary leader with over 13 years of experience in Business Administration, Energy, and Engineering, Shalaya has established herself as an expert in implementing federal diversity and economic opportunity programs. Connecting with thousands of organizations serving small businesses within the energy industry she has a macro level of understanding of the challenges and opportunities. Shalaya’s leadership is marked by her strategic vision, expertise in networking, and ability to drive significant change within the clean energy sector through policy, community, and education.
Shalaya’s career spans a diverse range of roles that have allowed her to develop a deep understanding of the intersections between energy, education, and community engagement. Before joining the DOE, she honed her skills in the utility sector, focusing on safety and compliance with city and state regulations. She also brought her expertise to higher education and global transportation as Director of Affiliate Relations. Her commitment to mentoring and guiding the next generation of energy leaders led her to teach engineering with a focus on energy at Dearborn STEM Academy in Boston, where she empowered 11th and 12th graders with the knowledge to pursue careers in clean technology. A dedicated advocate for diversity and inclusion, Shalaya has made significant contributions to elevating women and people of color in the energy space.
Her leadership extends to the nonprofit sector, where she served as the president of the Greater Boston chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy and as the first African American board member of the New England Women in Energy and Environment. Her nonprofit experience also includes serving on the board of the Georgia Gwinnett College Alumni Association and as a committee member for Browning the Green Space, focusing on the inclusion of minorities in the energy transition. Shalaya holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia Gwinnett College and a Master of Education from Cambridge College. She is slated to complete a second bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering Technology in 2025. Her passion for clean energy and her unwavering commitment to diversity make her a highly sought-after collaborator in the clean technology space, where she continues to inspire and lead transformative initiatives that drive equitable energy solutions for all.
